Extra Curricular Activities

All students are encouraged to take part in a variety of College activities outside the normal curriculum.  These activities may take place at lunchtime, immediately after school or in the evening.  A large number of departments in school offer a wide range of extra activities for our students.

Other activities on offer and more information about clubs and activities

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

The D of E Award is open to students in Year 10 and 11.  You will start in Year 10 with your Bronze award and can then continue in Year 11 to your Silver award.  This is a fantastic opportunity and is a very well recognised award.  Sessions will take place in the evenings to help prepare you for expeditions and support you through the other aspects of the award.

If you are interested speak to Mr Clarke for more information.

The French Club

This is a club offering all students the chance to have fun, to learn more about France and improve their French.  Activities will include French food tasting, watching ‘The Simpsons’ in French, cooking French food, making and listening to French rap and playing games.  There will be lots of prizes and rewards to be won too.   See  Miss Tinnion for more details.

The College has a number of foreign links, and visits have been made to countries including France, Kenya, Morocco and the United States.  Regular ski trips to Italy take place.

Other after school clubs and activities

We very much encourage our students to suggest the types of activities they would like to see around school and try to offer a broad range of simulating and enjoyable activities outside the classroom.

Family Learning Sessions

Longbenton has also organised highly successful Family Learning opportunities that give students and their parents to gain a new skill together.

In 2009-2010 students and their parents took part in Family Cookery Sessions run by an outside company.  Watch out for new opportunities in the near future!
