School uniform plays a valuable role in contributing to the ethos of the school and sets an appropriate tone. It instils pride, supports positive behaviour and discipline and encourages identity with the school. Uniform can also be useful to protect children from social pressures to dress in a particular way.
It is school policy that all students must wear school uniform in Years 7 to 11.
Please ensure you follow the school uniform guidelines via our policy and visual guide. Blazers are available to purchase via Emblematic https://emblematic.co.uk/longbenton-store/longbenton-high-school/
Longbenton High School requires all pupils to wear school uniform. We are committed to making our uniform policy fair, affordable, and transparent, in line with the DfE’s statutory guidance on the cost of school uniforms. GOV.UK
Why We Have a Uniform
-
To foster a sense of belonging and equality
-
To reduce the pressure on families to buy fashionable or expensive clothes
-
To maintain a smart and professional school appearance
Branded vs Generic Items
-
Only two items (the blazer and tie) must be branded.
-
All other uniform items may be generic, so families can purchase from any retailer as long as items meet the school’s specified colour, style, and quality standards.
-
This approach aligns with the DfE guidance that schools should minimise the number of branded items to keep costs down.
Where to Buy
-
Branded uniform items can be purchased directly from our school supplier: Emblematic (Longbenton).
-
Generic uniform pieces (e.g. trousers, skirts, shirts) may be bought from any high-street or online retailer, helping families compare prices and find cheaper alternatives.
Second-Hand Uniform
-
We support uniform reuse to reduce cost: good-quality second-hand uniform is available from school reception.
-
We hold uniform swap events each term.
-
If you have clean, gently worn uniform items to donate, you can leave them at the main office.
Support and Exceptions
-
We recognise that some families may struggle with uniform costs. Please contact the school office if you need support; we have resources to assist where possible.
-
In line with DfE guidance, we will not require families to purchase from an exclusive supplier unless there is a good educational reason, and the cost is kept reasonable.
